"Eco-News :CFLs in Haryana,India"
Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) will shortly launch a unique scheme that will lead to two districts in Haryana becoming the first ones in the world to replace conventional light bulbs by compact florescent lamps (CFLs).
Under this scheme 530,000 CFLs will be distributed by Osram India to all electricity consumers in the districts of Yamunanagar and Sonepat in Haryana.
Conventional bulbs of 100 watt and 60 watt would be replaced by CFL of 20 watts and 15 watts respectively in each household. CFL lights have an average life span of about 10 years.This will save energy and would help in reducing carbon dioxide emissions and hence global warming. More than eighty percent electricity will be conserved by using CFLs.
A great initiative indeed!
