A love story that reaches its crescendo with a lover declaring , "And I find the greatest peace in knowing that together one day we will be phosphates of calcium" is not really the run-of-the mill line one would usually expect from a wife to a husband. But nothing, absolutely nothing is run-of-the mill or predictable about the incredible play , "A Disappearing Number" by Complicite & conceived and directed by Simon McBurney. It premiered in Plymouth in March 2007,[1] toured internationally, and played at The Barbican Center in Autumn 2007 and 2008, and at Lincoln Center in July of 2010 & in August 2010 in India.
Inspired by the unusual and fascinating collaboration between two of the most remarkable pure mathematicians of the twentieth century, Srinivasa Ramanujan, a poor Brahmin from South India, and his British mentor as well as contemporary G.H. Hardy, from Cambridge university , the play is an interesting & unique mix of mathematics and life. Hardy, a distinguished mathematician, formed an academic partnership with Ramanujan, which he called “the one romantic incident of my life”. |

Years ago I heard the song "Drops of Jupiter" by Train, and it instantly stood out as a unique song. The song went on to win Grammy awards. But it is the song's lyrics that made it so outstanding in my memory. It remains one of my favorites. And the reason is not any award but the unusual lyrics. They paint such a vivid picture. Imagine how much fun will it be to "trace your way through the constellation" ?
And many years after, that part of the song has become a reality. Astronomers from Jodrell Bank and Cardiff University have now made it possible for any of us to trace our way across the galaxy. If only on our screens. But it is a step ahead indeed. The online tool, Chromoscope, allows anyone to view the Milky Way and the distant Universe more easily than ever before. The site shows the sky in a range of wavelengths, from high-energy gamma rays through to the longest radio waves.
Chromoscope has an interactive map that allows you to see what the universe looks like across all wavelengths, from gamma ray to radio. You can literally see every part of the universe, zooming in and out and around space.Chromoscope has been created using public-domain datasets from a number of all-sky astronomy projects. It lets you easily move around the sky and fade between wavelengths using a simple user-interface to illustrate the similarities and differences between what is visible at each wavelength. To move the map around, simply ‘grab’ it with the cursor and drag around the screen. A simple slider allows you to fade gradually along the spectrum and to see structures and features change as they go. |

WHITE WATER RAFTING
River rafting in the dazzling white waters of the Himalayan Rivers is the best in the world, with great rapids that challenge the body, invigorate the mind and the spirit. There are many river-rafting regions here which suit both professionals as well as amateur rafters.
The magic behind white water rafting is the extreme and never-ending thrills in the untamed rivers. It’s that inexplicable feeling of incredible peace found in the act of flowing with the astounding current of the river. One of the most magnificent white water rafting experiences one can have would be on River Beas. The Beas River, one of the four major Himachal Rivers, rises from Rohtang Pass and flows through the Kully valley. Beas has, right from Manali till Jhiri, close to Bajaura in Kullu district, become a favorite among the river rafting lovers. On this 20 kms stretch, there... Adventure Travel Read More... |
